Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) was developed in the early 1920’s and was derived from a style of Judo known as “Kano Jiu-Jitsu.” This style of martial art focuses on the skill of taking an opponent to the ground, controlling one’s opponent, gaining a dominant position, and using a number of techniques to force them into submission via joint locks or chokeholds. BJJ is one of the essential martial art forms of the Mixed martial arts (MMA) competitions and the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
